A phenotype is all the observable characteristics of an organism that result from the interaction of its genotype (total genetic inheritance) with its environment. With this series, the hand represents the genetic and nongenetic traits that have been "handed down" from one generation to the next. Genetic markers being susceptible to both physical and mental disease, and nongenetic traits being learned habits, we receive them whether they be desirable or not. The color choices in these works are derived from scans and images of the diseased human body.
